The passion hypothesis
The key to occupational happiness is to first figure out what you're passionate about and then find a job that matches this passion.
This advice is not always helpful.
A lot of successful people who say 'follow your passion' are passionate about what they do, no doubt, but they often didn't start out that way.
To be successful, it's necessary to be passionate about what you do, but how do you know what you'll be passionate about? It's tautological.
Things happen in stages.
It takes time to get good at anything- "The key thing is to force yourself through the work, force the skills to come; that's the hardest phase.'
We often try to judge all things in the abstract before we do them. It's hard to predict in advance what you'll eventually grow to love
